We’re starting to plan our UVU Study Abroad in Brazil 2011 – are you coming?
Hello everybody! We should soon start packing for our Study Abroad in Brazil (ok, in two months! : D)! I believe it will be a wonderful experience! If you’d like to join our group, act fast to put your paperwork together!
Here are some dates:
March 5th (Friday) at 3pm: First Orientation Meeting, at the International Office. Bring the paperwork for the student visa.
The dates below are tentative and subject to change:
9 May 2010 – arrive in Florianopolis
10 May – 4 June – classes at Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina
5 June – leave to Sao Paulo
8 June – visit the Iguacu Falls
9 June – tour Rio de Janeiro
13 June – end of the program
This will be UVU’s first Study Abroad in Brazil – I’m glad you can be a part of it!
Dinner
Here are some pictures of our Fundraiser Dinner at Tucano’s, this past Nov17 – a lot of people showed up! Of course they all loved the food and had a great time! We missed some of you, but maybe next time you could join us. Proceeds will help fund grants for our Study Abroad participants.

Utah Valley University will have its first Study Abroad in Brazil in the Summer of 2010, tentatively from May8- June13, one week after Spring classes are over – just enough time to let you breath a little bit, say hello and goodbye to family and friends – and get ready for some more learning and adventure!
Earn 4-6 university credits, visit many sites, explore what makes Brazil Brazil!

Program
We’ll offer Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Portuguese classes, in cooperation with the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, in Florianopolis. We STRONGLY encourage students to take at least one semester of class before going on this StudyAbroad, simply because you benefit so much more by being able to understand some of the language and the way the people behave.
Classes at or above PORT2010 can be used for a Minor in Foreign Languages at UVU. PORT2020 fulfills General Education Requirements.
Transfer credit is possible, since UVU courses and credits are usually accepted towards degrees at most colleges and universities. Nevertheless, consult with your home institution if you plan to join UVU’s Study Abroad to Brazil.
Classes will be taught by very qualified faculty from the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina. Through a combination of formal classroom practice, conversational exchange with their host families and native students, films, and excursions, students will have a chance to immerse in the culture and expand their linguistic abilities while being exposed to a higher education environment.
For Advanced Speakers, we’re planning to offer a Brazilian History class. This can be used as a PORT or a HIST credit at UVU. Some Intermediate students may be eligible to take this class as a split-level course.
A few students with special projects may consult with the Study Abroad Director to see how they can accommodate their interests. These will be considered on a case-by-case scenario, and kept at a minimum.
